And why that should matter to you all
I’m a day late, but we must always be aware that Veterans and their families always matter. After all, YOU and your family mattered to them when they decided to serve our country. Even those military members who never saw war, never were injured, and returned home alive made enormous sacrifices for us.
This essay is short and very sweet from a writer whose family has voluntarily served in every conflict since the Civil War.
My grandfathers and great-grandfathers served in WWI and earlier wars.
My parents, who grew up six blocks apart in Chicago during WWII, fatefully met at Pearl Harbor when my mom was a Marine sergeant and my dad a Navy Corpsman.
My brothers served in Vietnam and Desert Storm I. My son, daughter, and son-in-law, now in their 40s, served under George W. and came home on disability. My grandson joined the Navy.
My husband served in Vietnam and is still weathering health issues from Agent Orange, burn pits, and other poisons. Burn pits were used to burn human waste and other toxic materials in base camps. The smoke contained poisons that harmed the skin, eyes, respiratory and cardiovascular systems…
